Casa Plaj
A PAUSE ON THE SILVER COAST
LOURINHÃ, PORTUGAL
Mornings arrive slowly at Casa Plaj. Light filters through the surrounding nature and gently fills the house, marking the start of another unhurried day. The distant sound of the sea blends with the birdsong, inviting a peaceful slowdown.
Located on the Silver Coast, about an hour from Lisbon, Casa Plaj is a holiday home designed for relaxation. A refuge where life follows the rhythm of the sun, simple gestures, and close connection to the landscape. Days here unfold in calm routines: preparing breakfast without schedules, walking barefoot through the house, spending afternoons swimming and reading, letting time stretch without urgency.
This architect-designed house, by the Portuguese studio Extrastudio, stands out for its striking presence. The prominent volume and warm tones of the façades - ranging from orange to terracotta - make it immediately recognizable in the landscape. Inside, the decor blends simplicity with sophistication: iconic design pieces, bursts of colour, and a language that combines modern comfort with lightness.
The house has three bedrooms and two bathrooms - ample space for shared days with family or friends. Outside, a saltwater pool invites you to cool off and slow your thoughts. Around, open fields and silence. And just minutes away, some of the region’s best beaches - perfect for long seaside walks or for those chasing good surf.
Casa Plaj belongs to a young family of four from Munich. They fell in love with Portugal on their travels and decided to build their own holiday home here. The name “PLAJ” is formed from the initials of their names - a home designed for them, but shared with anyone seeking the same: time, sun, and lightness.
In the late afternoon, the balcony becomes the perfect spot to enjoy the sunset and gaze out towards the sea. The light turns golden, the heat eases, and the day ends slowly, just as it began.
Casa Plaj is a place of calm. A place to take a deep breath, switch off, and simply be.
